Hello Everyone. I am just keeping you up to date with the next seven day retreat coming up.

“Creative Winter Escape” Retreat 3 to 10 July 2010.

You do know about the wonderful mild winter climate that we enjoy in Coffs Harbour!!!! I hope that you are planning to join us in July. There are some wonderful tutors/workshops on offer still with vacancies.

Be Creative by the Sea Retreats offer a special time to indulge and focus on YOUR creative speciality – Traditional or Contemporary Quilts, Designing Art Quilts, Machine Quilting or Creative Machine Embroidery.

The first of the three NEW LOOK Be Creative by the Sea retreats planned over 2010-11 was held at the beginning of May, at Opal Cove Resort Coffs Harbour.

This will be followed very shortly by “Creative Winter Escape” retreat to be held from the 3 to 10 July 2010 and then of course there “Something Special-International Parade” 30 April to 8 May 2011 to look forward to in the future.

The new concept of a smaller and more intermit retreat was enthusiastic received by participants at the “Last Warmth of Summer” retreat. The retreat offered participants three -day workshops with special time to focus and indulge and fine-tune their creative talents under the guidance of three very professional and talented tutors. In the smaller workshop groups, students received generous attention from their chosen tutor and more workshop space was much appreciated in the inspirational and affordable luxury of Opal Cove Resort. The “Creative Winter Escape” Program is equally exciting and you still have time to join us. Jane Sassaman from the USA will be the international guest tutor. She is a high profile contemporary quilter, tutor, author and fabric designer and will present one. two and three day workshops. We will have some of her own fabric designs in the shop for your to see.

Other exciting three -day workshops programmed will be presented by Australian tutors Nic Bridges (Contemporary Art Quilts), Deborah Louie (Machine Quilting with Style), Liz Scobie (3-D machine Embroidery), Lisa Walton (Textured Treasures) and Mariya Waters will share her special techniques of machine/hand Turned Edged Appliqué and machine Trapunto used by this awarding winning Quilter.

All Evening events will be informal get togethers – friendship and sharing. A special Be Creative menu will be available in the Horizons Restaurant & Bar. Everyone is welcome and an area will be set aside so that we can dine together.

Brenda is one of the Australian "Twelves" and will be a tutor at Be Creative by the Sea. You are invited to meet Brenda when she will be sharing a slideshow presentation of works from the Twelve by Twelve Collaborative Art Quilt Project together with insights of her experience belonging to a dynamic, international art community.

The Twelve by Twelve Collaborative Art Quilt Project is an international group made up of twelve textile artists who have embarked on an art challenge together. The finished works, together with artist statements, are showcased on their dedicated website gallery (www.twelveby12.org).

Twelve distinctive art quilt mosaics made up of a total of 144 works will be on exhibition in Australia in 2010 as follows:

CONEMPOARY SOUTH AFRICAN QUILTS

Rosalie is a world renowned textile artist and tutor from South Africa. We feel privileged that Rosalie will spend six days tutoring at Be Creative. Her presentation will take us on a creative journey and look at a large range of quilts made over the past few years.
